Data protection information

Real-time Traffic Information

With the “Real-time Traffic Information” service, you can call up real-time data on the current traffic situation via your vehicle’s navigation system by radio network connection.

When you select this service, your vehicle’s PCM (Porsche Communication Management = the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication) first of all logs into our system using the vehicle identification number. We need this information in order to allocate your vehicle to your user account and to check that the user is authorised to use the service.

The provision of Real-time Traffic Information is undertaken by a service provider operating on behalf of Porsche, which exchanges movement and traffic information directly with your car’s PCM. Please note that servers of the service provider on which data is processed in the context of the service may also be located outside of the United States of America. In order to be able to establish a connection to your PCM, a temporary authorisation code will be exchanged between the service provider’s servers and your PCM.

Once the connection has been established, your current vehicle position, any active route guidance and your current speed and direction of travel will be transmitted directly from your PCM to the service provider’s servers. On the basis of your vehicle position and the active route, the service provider will determine traffic information within the area relevant for the current journey, and will transfer this to your navigation system. Your vehicle position and your current speed and direction of travel can be stored by the service provider and subsequently used for the further improvement of the service and for the generation of real-time traffic data.

Porsche AG has no access whatsoever to the movement and traffic information which is exchanged exclusively between your navigation system and the service provider.

Online Map Update

Using the "Online Map Update" service, you can update the navigation system maps in your vehicle by the radio network connection.

When you log into your vehicle's PCM (Porsche Communication Management = the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication), your vehicle identification number is transmitted to our system. We need this information in order to allocate your vehicle to your user account and to check that the user is authorised to use the service.

The map data is supplied and transmitted via the server of a service provider operating on behalf of Porsche. Please note that the service provider’s server on which data is processed in the context of the service may also be located outside the United States of America. In order to connect to your vehicle, an authorisation code will be exchanged between the service provider's servers and your vehicle's PCM.

Each time your vehicle starts, the latest map version used by your navigation system will be requested by the service provider's server in order to check whether new map data is available. If new map data is available, it will be transmitted directly from the servers of the external service provider to your navigation system and this process is documented in our system.

Further information on data protection in regard to Porsche Connect can be found in our privacy statement.

Online Search

Using the "Online Search" service, you can run online searches in your vehicle via the radio network connection. By using a specific location, you can also receive information on parking places in your area, on your route or at your navigation destination. The availability of this information is location-dependent.

When you select this service, your vehicle's PCM (Porsche Communication Management = the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication) first of all logs into our system using the vehicle identification number. We need this information in order to allocate your vehicle to your user account and to check that the user is authorised to use the service. To enable you to receive location-specific information, your current location or a location selected by you (e.g. your navigation destination) – depending on what you ask – is transmitted to us.

To perform the search and produce the search results, we use content from service providers operating on behalf of Porsche. Please note that the service provider’s servers on which data is processed in the context of the service may also be located outside of the United States of America. In order to supply information for a specific location or for a specific destination, your vehicle's position is transmitted to the service provider along with your search request. To ensure that your request can be correctly allocated, an authorisation code is also exchanged with the service provider’s servers.

On the basis of the requested search and the position information, the service provider determines the appropriate search results. The information is then allocated to your vehicle by our system and passed on to the PCM.

By using a specific location, you can also receive information on parking spaces in your area, on your route or at your navigation destination. The availability of this information is location-dependent.

When you select this service, your vehicle’s PCM (Porsche Communication Management = the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication) first logs into our system using the vehicle identification number. We need this information in order to allocate your vehicle to your user account, and to check that the user is authorised to use the service. To enable you to receive location-specific information about parking spaces, your current location or a location selected by you (e.g. your navigation destination) – depending on your request – is transmitted to us.

Fuel Prices

With the "Fuel prices" service you have access via wireless connection in your vehicle to current gas stations nearest to you, along your route or at your destination. For this your current location is determined. In addition you can save specific gas stations as Points of Interest (POI) for the future.

When the service is selected the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system of your vehicle initially logs into our system using the vehicle identification number. We require this information to assign your vehicle to your user account and to be able to check its authorization to use the service. To receive location related fuel price information, your current location or from a location you select (e.g. navigation destination) is also sent, depending on the request.

To create fuel price information we use content from service providers contracted by us Porsche Please be aware that the servers of the service provider on which data is processed as part of the service may be located outside the the USA. To be able to provide location related information, only the position information provided by your PCM will be made available for transmission to the service provider. So that your request can be assigned, an anonymous authorization key will also be exchanged with the servers of the service provider. Beyond the aforementioned data, Porsche does not transmit any information that can be traced back to your person (e.g. name, Porsche ID or vehicle identification number) to service providers.

The service provider determines the corresponding fuel price information based on the queried location. The information is then assigned to your vehicle and forwarded to the PCM.

News

The News service allows you to read your personally chosen news in the vehicle or to have the news read out by the Voice Pilot. During the setup process, you can search for news channels of your choice directly in your vehicle’s PCM (Porsche Communication Management system) and subscribe to or link the service to your account in order to import channels already subscribed. It is also possible to search for articles or channels in the subscribed news feeds. If you use feeds, you have the option of saving articles for "Read later".

When you select the service in your vehicle, the PCM initially logs into our system using the vehicle identification number.  So that a connection can be established where necessary between your account with a third-party provider and your news services, we are given access to your third-party account and the accounts are linked with each other.

A time-limited authentication key is generated so that a connection can be established between the servers of the service provider and the PCM of your vehicle. We require this information you to check the rights for use of the service. In addition, we also use this information together with the time at which the service was accessed (timestamp) for the purpose of creating a database for anonymized usage statistics.

In order to display your news, stored articles and news are transmitted to us after login with the Porsche ID. The transmitted data is used to display your personalized news in the PCM where you can read it or listen to it. Your data is stored for this purpose until you delete it manually.

For creation and provision of news feeds, we use service providers who are commissioned by Porsche.

You always have the option of deactivating the service in the system settings of the PCM in your vehicle. There is also the option of deactivating the service as part of the whole service group.

The functionality of the service may be limited or no longer available after performing general deactivation in the system settings.

Weather

Using the Weather service, it is possible to view the weather situation at the current location, the active destination or a stored favourite location. In order to use the weather favourites function, the customer must log into the service in the vehicle with their Porsche ID.

When you select the service in the vehicle, the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) initially logs into our system using your vehicle identification number.Alternatively, it is possible to use the Weather Service without logging into your account, as a guest (favorites functionality is not available in guest mode).

To enable a connection to be established to your vehicle's PCM, a time-limited authentication key is exchanged between our systems and your vehicle's PCM.We require this information in order to assign your vehicle to your user account and to allow us to check that you are entitled to use the service.

In addition, we also use this information together with the time at which the service was accessed (timestamp) for the purpose of creating a database for anonymized usage statistics.

In order to access the weather at the current location, destination and favorites location, a list of cities and coordinates is transferred from your vehicle to the content provider after the connection has been established. Information about the weather at the above-mentioned locations is retrieved on the basis of the transmitted data. The list of favorites with city name and coordinates is then stored in our system under the Porsche ID. Your data will be stored in our system for this purpose and deleted when they are manually changed by you.

In order to search for the weather at a location, the name of the respective city in transmitted from your vehicle via our system to the content provider. The city for which the search is to be performed and the GPS coordinates are transferred with the transmitted data. These results are then transferred to your vehicle in order to be displayed. Your data will not be stored or logged for this purpose.

In order to display the weather at a requested location, the GPS coordinates are transferred from your vehicle to the content provider without any direct customer reference. The weather data for the GPS coordinates is requested with the transmitted data. These results are then transferred to your vehicle in order to be displayed. Your data will not be stored or logged for this purpose.

We use service providers commissioned by Porsche for provision of the weather information.
